Game Line Research: Moneyline, Spread, and Totals

Published July 8, 2026

BettorIndex researches team moneyline, spread, and total markets with one card structure across NBA, MLB, and NFL. Each card shows a lean, the records that drive it, best line/odds, and relevant injuries for both teams.

How does moneyline research work?

Moneyline leans combine each team’s venue win rate and head-to-head win rate when enough matchup history exists (at least three head-to-head games). Cards show plain-language records like “Won 6 of last 10 away games.”

Last-N overall wins are shown for context only — they do not feed the lean. When books disagree on price, the card shows a Split Market price range per team.

How does spread research work?

Spread research uses the same structure as moneyline, but with cover rates instead of wins. Each team’s score is venue cover rate plus head-to-head cover rate.

Cards show “Covered X of last Y games” language and surface the best spread line and price. When books post different spread lines, the card shows line and price ranges — informational only.

How does total research work?

Totals are not team-vs-team picks. BettorIndex researches whether recent game history favors the Over or Under at tonight’s total.

Each direction’s score combines:

  • Home-team clear rate
  • Away-team clear rate
  • Head-to-head clear rate (when enough sample exists)

The lean is Over or Under, not a team name. Best line shopping uses the minimum total for Over and maximum total for Under.

What is the opposing side section?

For moneyline and spread cards, expand the opposing team section to compare both sides. For totals, expand the other direction (Over vs Under) instead.

What about injuries on game lines?

Game line cards show relevant injuries for both teams in the matchup — not a full league injury report. Same idea as props, scoped to tonight’s game.
